When visiting the local department store for practically anything, one can always end up getting confused because of the number of choices that are available to customers. This is very apparent when looking for something as basic as simple drinking water. Aside from choosing among all the available brands, one has to choose between mineral or distilled, ionized or plain, and so on.
Choosing flannel bedsheets would be no different. With so many people with different preferences, one can get lost during a visit to the local department store especially when one does not know how to understand the different pieces of information that are printed on the packaging of the different types of flannel. This article aims to uncover the haze that one might get when searching for the perfect flannel bed covers.
One of the main considerations that people take when buying cloth would be the thread count. These items usually vary between one hundred (100) to five hundred (500), with the higher thread count having the higher price. The increase in price happens because the thread count indicates the number of threads that are found within one square inch of the cloth that is to be purchased. The lower the count, the more loose the weave. If the weave of the cloth is loose, then it can very easily get deformed. The standard thread count is at 150, with the higher accepted counts are within 200 or 300.
Another confusing item on the bed sheet packaging could be the terms “flat” and “fitted”. These are fairly simple. Flat sheets are sheets with no trimmings, plain and simple. These are the sheets are are usually found in the military or in hospitals. Then need to be tucked in and folded properly in order to make sure that the fit is snug. Fitted sheets, on the other hand, are sheets that have elastic bands at the corners which are there to keep the cloth in place. When getting a fitted sheet, be sure to get one with the same size as that of the bed which it is to be used with. If one gets a larger sized fitted sheet for a small bed, then it would just be as if one got a flat sheet. The elastic bands will be of no use.
Of course this all falls down to the preference of the buyer. Fitted sheets are to make things easier for the user, but need to be used only with the same size of bed. Flat sheets are more universal when speaking of the size. As for the thread count, the higher the count, the stronger the fabric. Do take note that the fabric is warmer as well, so one may want to make a trial purchase before buying more.
Once the purchase is made though, then one can go ahead and use the flannel sheets and get the best night’s sleep ever!
